Just off Rt. 22 in Union, stands a very unique structure. What makes it so unique is that within its walls is one of the only pure diesel mechanics school in the country. Engine City, established in 1969, shares this building with Mack Boring, A 80-year-old company. Mack Boring is the third generation family owned business recently honored as Runner Up Family Business of the Year.
Engine City, a one of a kind school, has a curriculum that focuses on commercial and industrial diesel. The school trains the students in the construction, reconstruction and maintenance of transmissions, engines, refrigeration units, internal computers, suspension systems, clutches and ABS brake systems. Engine City is proud of the fact that they are one of the first schools in the country to offer an electronic engine course where the experienced mechanic can upgrade skills and receive instruction on intricacies of the cutting edge technology in today's modern equipment. Classes are equipped with actual engines that the students completely disassemble, reassemble, tune and bring into running status while under the guidance of professional instructors.
