Finance Management Careers: Make the Money Follow You

By Joe Cooper

Only three out of every 10 finance managers actually work in the finance and insurance industries. So where are all the rest? An education in finance puts you in the position to choose your industry, your location, and your career path.

The Wide World of Finance

The great thing about finance is that jobs are everywhere. Big business needs successful financial practices. Small startups and non-profit organizations need plans for financial success. Individuals need financial help.

So how do you get into finance management?

It's a very competitive field, and to really get ahead, you've got to have an education. Many finance degrees come as specializations of a business degree. You might choose to earn your Bachelor's in Business Administration, with an emphasis on Finance. One great way to earn your degree is through online education, which saves you time and often money. Earning your finance degree online could be a great fiscal decision.

Options All Over

Any one of these finance management jobs, not to mention dozens of others, could be yours:
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable Representative
  • Financial Analyst
  • Financial Consultant
  • Finance Manager
  • Bank Manager
Another option would be to continue your education. As competition in the job market for finance managers becomes fiercer, more and more finance professionals are pursuing higher education to set themselves apart. Once you earn your bachelor's degree, you can even earn your master's online. Then, armed with two degrees, you will be even more marketable for finance management jobs. The average salary of a finance manager was $81,880 two years ago--not a bad sign of the possibilities for your career!
