By Stanley Rubenti Career Colleges Columnist Did you know that you can launch an art or design career without ever setting foot in a studio? The world of art and design was forever changed when the Internet became the preeminent medium for fashion, advertising, business, and entertainment. Not only can you work almost exclusively from a computer, but you can receive your training almost exclusively through elearning programs. Graphic design, which depends on computers, is among the most popular programs. Online Training Provides Fantastic Art and Design Opportunities There are literally thousands of magazines, billboards, TV commercials, and movies that benefit from graphic design. The most popular outlet for those with online training as graphic artists, however, is the Internet itself. In 2006, Google had reportedly indexed over 25 billion Web sites--roughly 4 Web for every person on the planet (there are roughly 6 billion people in the world). And this astronomical number is actually an underestimate. Google can't index everything, and new sites pop up every day. It's only natural that skilled graphic designers, who design these pages for both appearance and functionality, are in high demand. Elearning Is Efficient, Affordable, and Convenient There are a number of reasons why it makes sense to earn your graphic design degree online. eLearning is often much more affordable than traditional brick and mortar schools. Not only is tuition usually lower, but you don't need to spend money on transportation, room and board, and other miscellaneous fees. In addition, online training moves at your own pace. There are deadlines, but because you maintain control over your schedule. You don't need to leave work early, cancel social commitments, or rearrange your life. All in all, elearning is infinitely more convenient than campus programs. Study when you want, and pay as you go.
