Some say that in the world of Internet marketing, if you don’t appear in the top 10 results of Google, your company or product doesn’t really exist at all. Of course, this exact phrasing might seem a little overdramatic. Not everyone uses the Internet to shop, after all. Still, it’s impossible to ignore just how much the Internet has changed the marketing and advertising industries and, in turn, how marketing degrees are earned.

Mastering HTML, Search Engine Optimization, and Coding
Want to become a marketing analyst, PR specialist, or advertising agent? There are certain areas you’ll need to master if you want to stay ahead of the game. You must not only understand changing trends, consumer psychology, basic economics, and other areas traditionally associated with marketing, but also the language of the new advertising medium. Familiarity with the Internet is not only beneficial, it’s a requirement.

If you already have a marketing degree, but don’t currently have sufficient computer skills, you’ll want to seriously consider your options. Knowing how to code HTML is crucial. Knowing how to optimize a company’s Web site for the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, and MSN) is vital. And knowing how to design user-friendly Web sites that keep visitors on the page is mandatory. The days of radio jingles are quickly fading and consumers speak an entirely new language. Effective Internet marketing must take that into account.

Where Can You Learn All of These Essential Internet skills?
Most MBA, marketing, and advertising programs saw the writing on the wall a long time ago and added search engine optimization, Web design, and other tangential areas to their curricula. Why not take a few marketing classes online? You’ll have to bone up on your skills eventually anyway. Do it now before the technology passes you by.
